There are many creative marketing campaigns for online retailers to ring in the new year. Even though shoppers are recovering from the holiday festivities, there’s nothing wrong in getting them inspired in welcoming the new year.
Whether you decide to send out an email campaign, promote items in your store or launch a giveaway, make sure you take advantage of this time to continue the conversation with prospects and customers.
I’ve gathered a list of all major holidays in 2017 but here’s a list of campaign ideas you can launch in January. They’re perfect for any type of product category and specifically made for eCommerce businesses.
January Marketing Campaign Ideas for Online Retailers
1. New Year Resolutions & Motivation
It’s a new year. Time for new year resolutions. We make plans to eat better, lose weight, get organized, be more productive, find love, be positive and so on. Inspire shoppers by helping them kick in the new year and maintain their new year resolutions. Show them how your product can help them get what they want this year.
For Example: Feature kitchen tools that help them bake healthy desserts
2. New Arrivals
Anything “NEW”sells. Who wants to buy old stuff?
This month, focus on promoting new arrivals within your catalog. It’s a great way to avoid discount promotions by simply highlighting the newest items of the year.
3. January Winter Sale
In January, why not host a Winter Sale. If you sell winter clothing, here’s your opportunity to move large amounts of inventory.
Offer value by creating bundle offers. For example: Buy a winter jacket and get 10% off gloves.
4. New Year. New Stuff.
We all love refreshing our wardrobe or our home. Promote the idea of buying new things since old stuff is no longer suitable. Educate shoppers of new trends, colors or upcoming needs they may not know about.
For example: Pineapple decor is trendy! Add it to your bedroom.
5. Winter Trends & Styles
Every season brings in new trends and fashion styles. Promote winter specific styles where you feature product and brands you carry.
You’ll be surprised to see how many people simply don’t follow trends. Inspire them!
6. Top 10 New Year Must-Haves
Shoppers love Top 10 lists. Here’s your opportunity to create one for them for this new year.
You can create a Top 10 list by collection, brand or product category.
For example: This Year’s Top 10 Leather Boots for Women.
7. Holiday Bills Stress-Relief
Guess what people are getting a lot of this month? Bills!
Create a campaign to help them cope with holiday expenses.
For example: Let’s say you sell tea. Why not create a campaign which shows the benefits of Camomile tea. It helps people relax, reduce anxiety and sleep better!
8. Brands We Sell
Start the year raising awareness of brands you currently sell in your online store. It’s a great way to remind customers of your product offering.
For example: You sell basketball shoes. Let customers know you’re an authorized Nike dealer.
9. Coming Soon
This month, create a campaign which features products that are coming soon. You can offer a pre-order option or simply provide a teaser of what shoppers can expect in the coming weeks or months.
10. Winter Giveaway
If you’re worried whether or not customers will buy after the holiday season, why not launch a January giveaway. I wrote an article about what giveaway tools you can use. It’s a great to acquire new email subscribers.
